Ask The Mend-A-Guru:

by Debra on September 15, 2011

I have a question –  my coach indicated that beans and hummus are not allowed during the first two phases.  Since beans are a key part of the gene smart diet according to their literature, and since those of us who do not eat a lot of meat or chicken rely on them for protein, why are they not allowed on the mendabody plan?

Great question!

We do retail the Gene Smart supplements. While we highly respect the Gene Smart program and know there are many compatible agreements on what we believe, the Mend-A-Body program was designed by Debra Ann to follow more distinctly the paths of anti-inflammatory recommendations. Our program is a development of exhaustive research that puts forth the key influences that make us completely unique. Regarding beans – they are mostly limited for weight loss as they are a) high in carbohydrates and b) very inflammatory. The proof of the inflammatory influence is evidenced by the experiences after eating beans – cramping, gas, bloating. If you are looking to avoid traditional protein sources like animal protein, you may ask your coach for the reference in our new Food Choice Book that recommends alternatives.
